Grow at Pu'u Mahana

Pu’u Mahana Plantation is a place of rest and peace. The literal translation is “warm hill.” Set on the slopes of Mauna Loa, our Pu’u Mahana is a place where you truly feel the warmth and inviting spirit of the island.

Our family-run farm boosts 7 manicured acres of avocado trees, dozens of coffee trees, and various fruit trees such as orange, tangerine, lychee, guava, mango, banana, papaya, and jaboticaba. We also play host to a flock of chickens providing farm-fresh eggs.

Established in 2006, Pu’u Mahana Plantation is dedicated to the memory of our beloved family patriarch, Nick Herberger. We are now five generations deep in the produce business and bring a passion for growing avocados, citrus, fruits, vegetables, and culinary herbs for our guests and our community.

We invite you to enjoy our beautiful property and the delicious produce we grow!

Our Sharwil avocados are certified by the USDA for export to the mainland. We begin harvesting in December and are usually able to pick through March. Additional varietals such as Malama, Kahalu’u, and Linda, give us avocados available for picking year-round.

We are proud to announce we’ve expanded into growing culinary herbs, and are the only commercial grower on Big Island. Our crops include oregano, basil, Kaffir lime leaf, marjoram, rosemary, dill, parsley, sage, Hawaiian chili peppers, and more.

Our herbs can be purchased exclusively through Adaptations Inc. Membership to the CSA is required.
